The aim of this Masters’ Thesis is to outline the elements of a phenomenological approach to the role played both by language and body in agency and perception. The strategy for achieving this goal is to offer a critical reconstruction of the McDowell-Dreyfus debate on rationality and experience, as well as Shaun Gallagher’s ideas on the debate. By doing this, I will point out the divergences among the authors’ approaches, showing the strengths andweaknesses of each perspective, so that the issues that are left unaddressed by them become the opportunity for my alternative account to take place. I call it ‘alternative’ because I will show that Dreyfus’ interpretation of Heidegger is not accurate to the extent that it misses the relevance that language has in Being and Time. This critique will allow me to bring out Heidegger’s idea of language as World-disclosure to address how the conceptual grows out of the non-conceptual and how we can close the explanatory gap between the cognition of humans and other animals by connecting coping and rationality through socialization and discourse. As my argument unfolds these three conclusions arise as the key elements of my alternative approach: (I) For thinking about human intelligence the social/discursive dimension is to be taken as primitive; (II) Language is transformative for experience; (III) Language is a means for coping and exploration.

El propósito de este TFM es esbozar los elementos de una aproximación fenomenológica al papel del lenguaje y del cuerpo en el agenciamiento y la percepción. La estrategia a seguir consiste en reconstruir críticamente el debate McDowell-Dreyfus sobre la racionalidad y la experiencia, al igual que las aportaciones de Shaun Gallagher sobre este. Así, mostraré las divergencias entre las aproximaciones de estos autores, con las fortalezas y debilidades de cada uno, de tal manera que los problemas que quedan sin abordar por ellos se vuelvan la oportunidad para poner en juego mi propuesta alternativa. La llamo ‘alternativa’ porque mostraré que la interpretación de Heidegger que hace Dreyfus nos es apropiada en la medida en que no toma en cuenta la importancia que el lenguaje tiene en Ser y Tiempo. Esta crítica me permitirá traer a colación la concepción heideggeriana de lenguaje como apertura del mundo para así poder abordar el problema de cómo lo conceptual surge de lo no-conceptual y cómo se puede cerrar la brecha explicativa entre la cognición humana y la de otros animales conectando la adaptación (coping) con la racionalidad a través de la socialización y el discurso. A medida que se desarrolla mi argumentación surgen tres conclusiones que conforman los elementos clave de mi propuesta: (I) Al pensar la inteligencia humana la dimensión socio/discursiva debe tomarse como primitiva; (II) El lenguaje es transformativo para la experiencia; (III) El lenguaje es un medio para la adaptación y la exploración.
